“The Keith Richards of Trumpet” - Ernie Wooden

Known for his unique, one-handed approach to his instrument, Michael growls, chuckles & squeals through his trumpet wherever it takes him. Embracing musical diversity, Michael feels as at home at an Indie Rock Festival, sweaty Afrobeat dance party or bombastic New Orleans second line as he at an intimate songwriter night or smoky jazz club. It’s a budding career that includes performances in 4 Continents, 20 Countries and 46 States. Touring with Magic City Hippies in 2024, Michael toured & recorded as a founding member of Brookyln’s The RT’s (formerly The Rad Trads) from 2012-2023, as well as with EMEFE (2011-2015), The Bailen Brothers (2010-2015, now BAILEN), and co-led the Fatum Brother’s Jazz Orchestra, Peacetet, and Trio (2009 - 2017) with his twin brother John Fatum (now touring and recording as Jacksonport). Michael has had the pleasure of touring, recording or performing with an inspiring list of musicians including St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Christopher Paul Stelling, Stuart Bogie (of Arcade Fire, Antibalas), Deer Tick, Red Baratt, Grace Webber and David Duchovny. Michael’s teaching credits include the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic’s Jazz Camp, Midwest Young Artists’ Jazz Camp and workshops at his alma mater, New York University’s Steinhardt School of Music. He is a proud Chicago-area native, and 10+ year veteran of New York City’s world famous music scene.
